#9日本人は大人でもマンガを読む

今日は2025年令和7年10月11日です。
今日は土曜日で、明日は日曜日、明後日の月曜日は「スポーツの日」で祝日です。
だから、今日から三連休です。
遊びに出かける人が多いですよ。
でも、台風23号が近づいて来ていて、連休なのにお天気は雨です。
この時期はたくさんの台風が日本に来ます。
台風が来ると、涼しくなって一気に秋が深まってくるんですよ。
今日のテーマは「日本人は大人でもマンガを読む」です。
① 日本語スクリプト（ふりがな付き）
みなさんの国（くに）では、マンガってどんなイメージがありますか？
子（こ）どもが読む（よ）むもの？
それとも、大人（おとな）も楽（たの）しむものですか？
日本（にほん）では、マンガは子（こ）どもだけのものではありません。
大人（おとな）も、たくさん読（よ）みます。
たとえば、電車（でんしゃ）の中（なか）。
スーツを着（き）たサラリーマンや、働（はたら）く女性（じょせい）――ワーキングウーマンが、
スマートフォンを見（み）ていたら、それ、マンガを読（よ）んでいるのかもしれません。
小（ちい）さいころからアニメを見（み）て、そこからマンガが好（す）きになる人（ひと）も多（おお）いです。
たとえば「ドラえもん」や「ワンピース」をアニメで見（み）て、
「続（つづ）きが早（はや）く知（し）りたい！」と思（おも）ってマンガを読（よ）み始（はじ）めるんですね。
幼稚園（ようちえん）の年長（ねんちょう）さんぐらいになると、
ひらがなやカタカナが読（よ）めるようになります。
そうなると、もうマンガは欠（か）かせません。
日本（にほん）のマンガには、ほとんど全部（ぜんぶ）の漢字（かんじ）にふりがながついています。
だから、漢字（かんじ）が読（よ）めなくても大丈夫（だいじょうぶ）。
実（じつ）は、私（わたし）もマンガで難（むずか）しい漢字（かんじ）を覚（おぼ）えました。
日本（にほん）の子（こ）どもたちは、
「ドラえもん」や「ポケモン」から始（はじ）まって、
「コロコロコミック」や「ちゃお」、
そして「少年（しょうねん）ジャンプ」や「りぼん」へと、
ステップアップしながら読（よ）んでいきます。
中学生（ちゅうがくせい）や高校生（こうこうせい）になると、恋愛（れんあい）マンガやスポーツマンガを読（よ）み、
大人（おとな）になると、仕事（しごと）や人生（じんせい）をテーマにした作品（さくひん）を読（よ）むようになります。
冒険（ぼうけん）や友情（ゆうじょう）をテーマにしたマンガは、どの世代（せだい）にも人気（にんき）があります。
今（いま）では、六十代（ろくじゅうだい）くらいの人（ひと）までマンガを読（よ）んでいます。
七十代（ななじゅうだい）の人（ひと）は、「マンガは子（こ）どものもの」という時代（じだい）に育（そだ）った世代（せだい）。
でも、六十代（ろくじゅうだい）の人（ひと）たちは、マンガが社会（しゃかい）に受（う）け入（い）れられた時代（じだい）を生（い）きてきました。
昔（むかし）はみんな、マンガ本（ぼん）の収納（しゅうのう）に頭（あたま）を悩（なや）ませていました。
毎週（まいしゅう）「少年（しょうねん）ジャンプ」を買（か）っていたら、すぐに部屋（へや）がいっぱいになりますよね。
でも最近（さいきん）は電子書籍（でんししょせき）になって、その問題（もんだい）も解決（かいけつ）しました。
マンガのジャンルも本当（ほんとう）に幅広（はばひろ）いです。
たとえば――
仕事（しごと）の悩（なや）みを描（えが）いた『島（しま）耕作（こうさく）シリーズ』、
料理（りょうり）の世界（せかい）を描（えが）いた『美味（おい）しんぼ』、
医療（いりょう）をテーマにした『ブラック・ジャック』など。
ビジネス、歴史（れきし）、恋愛（れんあい）、哲学（てつがく）、社会問題（しゃかいもんだい）まで、
どんなテーマでもマンガがあります。
ときにはニュースよりもわかりやすく教（おし）えてくれます。
歴史（れきし）だって、マンガで学（まな）ぶと楽（たの）しいですよ。
絵（え）と文字（もじ）で情報（じょうほう）が入（はい）ってくるから、すっと頭（あたま）に入（はい）ります。
それに、マンガからドラマや映画（えいが）になる作品（さくひん）も多（おお）いですよね。
『花（はな）より男子（だんご）』『キングダム』『ゴールデンカムイ』『のだめカンタービレ』など。
マンガで人気（にんき）が出（で）て、ドラマや映画（えいが）になるんです。
日本人（にほんじん）にとってマンガは、勉強（べんきょう）でもあり、リラックスの時間（じかん）でもあります。
だから、大人（おとな）になっても読（よ）む人（ひと）が多（おお）いんですね。
自分（じぶん）の現実（げんじつ）の世界（せかい）を少（すこ）し離（はな）れて、
まったく違（ちが）う世界（せかい）に入（はい）る――
それが、マンガの大（おお）きな魅力（みりょく）です。
りっぱな大人（おとな）のあなたも、日本（にほん）のマンガを読（よ）んだことがありますか？
もしまだなら、ぜひ一度（いちど）読（よ）んでみてください。
きっと、新（あたら）しい発見（はっけん）がありますよ。
② 英語訳（English Translation）
Is it something for children?
Or do adults also enjoy it?
In Japan, manga isn’t just for kids.
Adults read it a lot, too.
For example, on the train —
you might see a man in a suit or a working woman looking at their smartphone.
They might actually be reading manga.
Many people start liking manga because they watched anime when they were little.
For instance, they might watch “Doraemon” or “One Piece” on TV,
and think, “I want to know what happens next!” — so they start reading the manga.
By the time children reach their last year of kindergarten,
they can read hiragana and katakana.
At that point, manga becomes an essential part of their lives.
Almost all Japanese manga have furigana (small kana) beside the kanji,
so even if you can’t read kanji, you can still enjoy them.
Actually, I myself learned many difficult kanji from manga.
Japanese children start with “Doraemon” or “Pokémon,”
then move on to CoroCoro Comic or Ciao,
and later to Shonen Jump or Ribon.
They “level up” as they grow.
When they become junior or senior high school students,
they read romance or sports manga.
As adults, they read stories about work and life.
Manga about adventure and friendship are popular among all generations.
Nowadays, even people in their 60s read manga.
Those in their 70s grew up in a time when manga was considered childish.
But people in their 60s lived in an era when manga became accepted by society.
People used to struggle with storing all their manga books.
If you bought Shonen Jump every week, your room would fill up fast!
But now, with e-books, that problem has been solved.
There are so many genres of manga —
for example, “Shima Kōsaku Series” about business worries,
“Oishinbo” about the world of cooking,
and “Black Jack” about medicine.
From business and history to love, philosophy, and social issues —
manga covers every topic.
Sometimes it even explains things more clearly than the news.
Learning history through manga is also fun!
Because it combines pictures and words,
information is easier to understand and remember.
Many popular dramas and movies also come from manga —
like Boys Over Flowers, Kingdom, Golden Kamuy, and Nodame Cantabile.
They first become popular as manga, and then are adapted into TV or film.
For Japanese people, manga is both study and relaxation.
That’s why even adults keep reading it.
It’s wonderful to step away from your ordinary life
and enter a completely different world through manga.
That’s the real charm of it.
